Introduction

Child Protection Week is extremely important at Ethekwini Primary School because we value our pupils’ safety and well-being. Recently, students in Grades 4 and 6 participated in a thorough child protection awareness program designed to provide them with critical knowledge and assistance. We addressed crucial issues such as rape, bullying, human trafficking, and substance misuse with the help of numerous partners. This blog post dives into the thought-provoking sessions and useful tools made available to our young learners.

Students’ Empowerment through Awareness

Ethekwini Primary School invited important partners to the child protection awareness event, including the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Lifeline, the Department of Social Development, and the Ethekwini municipality. Their combined experience and passion were critical in creating a safe and supportive environment for our pupils.

Rape was a key focus of the awareness program, with the goal of dispelling myths and providing learners with critical knowledge on where, how, who, and why to report such instances. The emphasis on the services offered by Thuthuzela CareCenter was the highlight of the sessions. The center, which is located in Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, is open 24 hours a day, even on holidays, and provides a broad variety of services such as police aid, medical support, and safe houses if necessary. Thuthuzela CareCenter is a beacon of hope for those who have been touched, ensuring that no child is left without the required support and care.

In addition to tackling rape, the program addressed a number of other pressing concerns. Students acquired insight into the various types of bullying and learned effective ways for dealing with and preventing such instances. The information sessions also highlighted the hazards of human trafficking and the significance of always cautious and informed. Additionally, substance misuse was covered, encouraging students to make informed decisions and reject peer pressure.

A Comprehensive Approach to Child Protection

We at EThekwini Primary School believe that every child deserves a healthy and secure living, both at home and in the community. The importance of creating a safe atmosphere in which learners can thrive was underlined in the child protection awareness program. We empower our kids to defend themselves and their peers by providing them with knowledge, tools, and support.

Thuthuzela CareCenter: A Source of Hope

Thuthuzela CareCenter is critical in offering comprehensive care to children who have experienced abuse and violence. This dedicated institution, located at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, provides a comprehensive approach to ensuring that children receive the appropriate treatment, protection, and justice. The collaboration between EThekwini Primary School and Thuthuzela CareCenter demonstrates our dedication to ensuring our children’ well-being both inside and outside of the school grounds.
